CALENDAR OF IMPORTANT DATES
1929 - Department of Theory of Economics and Statistics in Polish Free University is established and assistant professor Edward Szturm de Sztrem, Ph.D. becomes a lecturer and Edward Rosset, M. Sc.- an assistant lecturer
1945 – professor Edward Rosset organizes the Unit of Statistics at the Faculty of Law and Economics. Department of Statistics becomes a part of Law Faculty after a reorganization of the University of Lodz and functions as such in the years 1948-1961
1949 - professor Edward Rosset forms Department of Statistics in the Higher School of Economics (1950-1961)
1961 – University of Lodz and Higher School of Economics merge and professor Edward Rosset forms Department of Demography and Statistics at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology and takes the chair in the years 1961-1968
1968-1972 – Department of Demography and Statistics changes its name into the Unit of Demography and Statistics as a result of another reorganization (1972-1986) and is headed by assistant professor Zbigniew Michałkiewicz, Ph.D.
1986-1987 - the Unit of Demography and Statistics is chaired by professor Zofia Zarzycka
1987 - professor Czesław Domański organizes the Unit of Statistical Methods and, following the reorganization of the Institute of Econometrics and Statistics in 1992, he forms the Department of Statistical Methods
2009 – Department of Statistical Methods starts functioning within the framework of the Institute of Statistics and Demography
